ABOUT MOVIE
Life has challenges: loneliness, sickness, loss of a loved one, separation or alienation, financial loss, job loss, insurmountable stress, abusive relationships, random accidents, and so on. These are inevitable human experiences. Sometimes they happen as a result of our own behavior, sometimes not. Once they happen, however, they become history: final and unchangeable. Our present circumstances are a result of history. Our future circumstances result from what we decide to do now.
In A Hero on Every Block, attorney and psychotherapist Adrian Marinovich, uncovers the human qualities that allow ordinary people to achieve extraordinary life success in the face of misfortune. This compelling demonstration offers inspiration and encouragement to anyone who has ever faced any kind of challenge. It proves that even in the most desperate of circumstances we all have the qualities to make us determined enough and courageous enough to overcome anything.
In those who have yet to rise from victim-hood to victory, a powerful force is ready to emerge. A Hero on Every Block serves as a catalyst for that victory.
The film, A Hero on Every Block, is the story of an idea: the idea of heroism. The story is told through the lives of individuals who survived and thrived in the face of adversity. None of them would consider themselves to be heroes, and yet, in the face of trying circumstances, they all made the heroic choice. They were all victimized (some by their own behavior), but none of them became victims. A Hero on Every Block is a celebration of the heroic nature of ordinary people. There is, in fact, a hero in each of us.
The filmmaker, Adrian Marinovich, encountered a number of challenges in making this movie. The biggest one of all came when the editing of the movie was almost completed. In March of 2010, after three years of work on A Hero On Every Block movie, Adrian got diagnosed with brain cancer. Adrian finished the final cut of the movie in September of 2010, as he was going through chemotherapy and radiation treatments.
This movie and the stories of people whom he interviewed, became the source of courage and inspiration for Adrian himself and for his wife, Anya. Adrian made a choice to view his illness as part of his Hero journey. He saw a purpose in it as well as an opportunity to find more strength and will power then he thought was possible. Adrian carried his life mission forward even in the toughest periods of his illness. He never complained, he was never a victim. Adrian passed away on April 13, 2011, a Hero in his life and in his death.
Through his own life experiences, Adrian proved the truths that A Hero On Every Block movie shows: no matter what the circumstances are, your life can still be meaningful, fulfilling and happy.
Adrian’s wife, Anya Marinovich, coordinated the post-production of the movie so that you too could find strength and courage in dealing with your life circumstances.
The documentary A Hero On Every Block is being submitted to the festivals, so it can reach and inspire a wider audience of people.
